Hi, here is a list of some salsa or dance movies. Of course I don't pretend to be a film critic, I just thought it could be a good idea to make a list of dance movies or movies somehow related to salsa. Suggestions that you might give are more than welcome.
- Dirty Dancing 1&2: something like the 'Mothers' of recent dance movies; quite naive script, but there's always the dancing and the music ...
- Habana Blues: not really a salsa movie, not even a dance movie, but a nice one about Cuba.
- The lost island: directed by Andy Garcia; nice atmosphere about Cuba in 1958 (year of the revolution)
- Shall we dance (movie with Richard Gere): good 'feel good' movie
- Hairspray: if you are young (at heart) these days, you dance salsa. If you were young (at heart) in the sixties, you danced rock’n'roll, twist, r&b … Check out “Hairspray”. Not exactly a pure dance movie, but nice. Here’s the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkzcNF-jlWw
- Take the lead (with Antonio Banderas): although I've seen it recently, I almost forgot the plot; but I remember I've enjoyed it.
- Mad hot ballroom: great documentary about ballroom classes in American high schools
- Step up: extremely original also, a young guy "from the street" but dancing of course like a God and with lots of muscles meets young professional dancer. I still enjoyed it though ...
